Question by welches_grape_jelly: Ladies, I need a second opinion?
My sister is getting married in 2 weeks, and my mother needs help with her jewelry. Her dress color is called mocha, but the brown has strong gray-green undertones to it. It’s the bottom left one on this link:
http://www.impressionbridal.com/catalog.php?cat=23&im_id=15&page=12
With her coloring, olive skin, dark brown hair, dark green eyes, I’m thinking gold or pearls. Simple and classic, which would work well for her age and the formality of the dress and the wedding itself. She asked me today “What about my peridot jewelry?”.
I think they are too light of a color for the dress, and too yellow.
Yes, I know it’s her decision, and I should keep my big fat nose out of it. But she asked for my help, so let’s keep the insults to a minimum please.
Thanks.

Beautiful dress!
My first instinct is to go with pearls, maybe in gold settings.
Not big chunky pearls ….. more of a dainty strand with understated earrings because the dress makes a lovely statement as it is

I think you should deffinatly stay away from necklaces with that dress you should get her some really dramatic looking earings.
ok sounds like pealrs pealrs pearls and a dash of fun like a flower something and maybe …………….yep pearls lol
gold or pearls would be the best I think
A simple strand of smaller pearls would be wonderful. Or a gold herringbone necklace would be nice too.
Gold that is what I would say.
well i like the gray one i think its beautiful
gorgeous dress…i love pearls and a simple chandelier earring or simple crystals…tell her good luck!
i agree, small delicate pearls would be perfect but peridot would be too yellow
Pearls would go nicely
i think pearls will look really good with the dress.—which is really beautiful. wish you sister good luck!
I think Pearls would be very nice with that! Very Classic look! then maybe a small amount of gold! But i like pearls much more with that look!
The neck is kinda high and has a lot of detail so adding a necklace might take the attention away from the dress. But a fancy pair of earings would look lovely with the dress.
Gold looks Fantastic with the mocha dress. No peridot. Gold looks wonderful.
Beautiful dress!!! I’d stick with pearls or light browns with gold
I think some Pearls would look nice, as I find pearls seem to pick up o the colour of clothing that is being worn with them, I guess they reflect the colour from the clothing.
What a beautiful and classy selection for a dress. I have to agree with the small pearls. The peridot wouldn’t be the best choice. The dress can actually go without a necklace if she wore some pearl drop earrings. (Nothing like the large hoops the model was wearing) Either way, have a wonderful time and congratulations to the happy couple!
yeah pearls would be real nice have funn at the wedidng!
What a gorgeous dress! I would say go with simple gold because I think that the style of pearls (because they are round) will take away from the dress. I also think that the dress is a little contemporary for traditional pearls.
With my bridesmaids dresses, I actually made my girls wear one of those fishwire necklacaes where the only thing you could see were the diamonds. i think that would be very pretty, too. Understated, but you still can tell that she’s wearing jewelry.
Good luck with the sister’s wedding! I’m sure your mother will be gorgeous no matter what you all decide to put around her neck.
Beautiful dress!!
NO to the peridot!
I would say no necklace at all, just some beautiful big earrings and a nice bracelet in matching stones (ie: diamonds or pearls)
The top of the dress is exquisite and putting a necklace on would take away from the dress and your mother’s face. It would become the focal point.
As far as gold or white gold/silver….definitely NOT gold. Although the dress is in the browns color scheme, it is not because of the undertones and would look better with the white golds/silver.
Us moms figure it all out eventually, so will your mom. Your mom will look smashing in the dress and what really matters is your sister anyway!
Congratulations and Good Luck to everyone!
With that dress I would not wear a necklace unless I want to hide a few wrinkles in that area.
My first choice would be diamonds but that can get pricey.
My second choice would be gray pearls. Nice size ones on pendant earring, and small ones on the necklace.
Here are some suggestions.

Or something like this with a gray pearl.
If she want’s to wear she already owns go for the pearls.
I find yellow gold very tacky unless it has a mate finish. Makes me think of people that wants to show they have money but have no class.
The most important thing is the design. And ELEGANT would be the key word.
You can make beautiful things with cheap materials and you can also make some really cheap looking ones with expensive ones.
And remember, many times “less is more”.
Good luck.
P.S. Beautiful dress!
that is a pretty dress…anything would go with it! the main attraction is the dress its self.
