Well it depends on what kind of mood you are trying to set. But usually the time of the reception in which you cut the cake is generally fun and light hearted. At my wedding we actually played the song “Cut the cake” by AWB (Average White Band). It is a really fun party song. Check it out here:

There’s no special song – it’s just done to regular background music, or just nothing. It usually happens right after the dinner and speeches, and just before the first dance, which is when the band or dj would start.
